The Petroleum Data Library, a non-profit organization that is the only one of its kind in the East Texas area, began in 1970 when a group of geologists felt that if steps were not taken to make information available, then the oil business would be leaving Tyler.
Concerned about the lack of available data (electric logs, scout tickets, etc.) needed to work up drilling prospects, the founding members set out to provide a complete petroleum data library that would be beneficial to consultants, lease men, independents, major companies, and the energy industry as a whole.
Over the years, companies and individuals have donated unique resources such as old hand-written scout tickets, mud logs, and hard-to-find logs. In addition, technology advancements have enabled digital data to grow and enhance the library’s offerings.
The combination of traditional materials steeped in history and modern technologies provides a valuable service to the members of today’s Petroleum Data Library.
